Three people were hospitalized Monday night after a speeding driver rear-ended a car on Aurora Avenue North, sending it careening 80 to 100 feet into the side of an auto parts store.
The crash happened shortly before 11 p.m. at Aurora Avenue North and North 105th Street. Officers arrived to find a blue Subaru pinned between the side of an O’Reilly Auto Parts store and a gray Hyundai. Inside the Subaru were a 66-year-old male driver and his passenger, a 58-year-old woman. A 30-year-old woman was driving the Hyundai.
Witnesses told police the Subaru driver was traveling north on Aurora when the speeding Hyundai rear-ended it. The impact pushed the Subaru about 80 to 100 feet before it came to rest against the building. The airbags deployed in the Hyundai from the severity of the crash. Officers believe the Hyundai driver may have been impaired.
All three injured people were taken to Harborview Medical Center for treatment. The 58-year-old passenger in the Subaru and the 30-year-old Hyundai driver had minor injuries. The 66-year-old Subaru driver suffered a serious head injury.
