The Seattle Fire Department posted on X around 10 p.m. Sunday, advising people to avoid the area.

Firefighters responded to a two-alarm blaze at a single-family home in the 3800 block of Ashworth Avenue North on Sunday night, according to the Seattle Fire Department.

Crews initially responded to a working fire before the incident was upgraded to a second alarm due to the intensity of the flames. Firefighters remain on scene working to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby structures.

There were no immediate reports of any injuries.

The fire was out by 10:30 p.m., but crews stuck around for hours to monitor for hot spots.

The 3800 block of Ashworth Avenue North places the fire in a residential section of Fremont between the Burke-Gilman Trail and Fremont Avenue, an area characterized by older single-family homes with wood construction vulnerable to rapid fire spread.

The upgrade from working fire to second alarm indicates flames exceeded first-response capabilities, requiring additional engine companies, ladder trucks, and personnel to establish adequate water supply and prevent the blaze from jumping to adjacent homes.

The 10 p.m. Sunday timing meant the fire occurred during evening hours when most residents would be home, increasing the potential for injuries though fortunately none were reported by the time firefighters achieved initial control.

The intensity of flames sufficient to trigger a second alarm suggests either the fire had significant head start before discovery, involved highly combustible materials, or encountered structural conditions like open floor plans or attic spaces that accelerated spread.

Firefighters’ focus on preventing spread to nearby structures reflects Fremont’s dense residential layout where homes sit relatively close together, creating exposure risks where radiant heat or windblown embers could ignite neighboring properties.

The 30-minute duration from the 10 p.m. social media post to fire knockdown at 10:30 p.m. demonstrates effective firefighting operations, though the timeline likely represents hours of total response from initial 911 call through final extinguishment.

The extended monitoring for hot spots after knockdown follows standard protocols where crews use thermal imaging cameras to detect hidden fire in walls, attics, or beneath debris that could reignite hours after visible flames are suppressed.

Ashworth Avenue North’s location running parallel to Fremont Avenue means the fire occurred on a quieter residential street rather than the neighborhood’s commercial corridor, potentially limiting impact on local businesses but affecting a tight-knit residential community.

The absence of injury reports suggests either the home was unoccupied at the time, residents escaped safely before fire blocked exits, or firefighters conducted successful search and rescue operations without finding trapped occupants.

The single-family home designation indicates a standalone structure rather than multi-unit building, limiting the number of potential victims but often presenting greater structural collapse risks for firefighters due to older construction methods and materials.
