Two bystanders were injured after a late-night exchange of gunfire erupted in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighbourhood near East Pike Street and 11th Avenue on Friday. Police officers on patrol responded after hearing gunshots around 11:30 p.m., finding a man with multiple gunshot wounds to the leg and a woman who had been shot in the ankle. Both victims were taken to Harborview Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators reviewed security footage showing a group of suspects on the southeast corner of the intersection opening fire on a man walking nearby. The targeted individual reportedly returned fire, triggering a gun battle that left the two bystanders caught in the crossfire.
The shooting also caused significant property damage, with several vehicles and nearby buildings struck by bullets. Officers recovered more than 50 spent shell casings from the scene, highlighting the intensity of the exchange.
Seattle Police Department’s Gun Violence Reduction Unit has launched an investigation to determine the motive behind the shooting and identify those involved. No arrests had been announced as authorities continued to gather evidence.
