Police have taken two men into custody in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 66-year-old man in Marysville earlier this year. The incident, which took place in the early morning hours of March 31, marked the city’s only homicide so far in 2025.
According to the Marysville Police Department, the investigation stretched across several months and involved extensive interviews, search warrants, and forensic analysis.
The first breakthrough came on July 2, when officers arrested one suspect on charges of first- and second-degree murder. He was booked into jail, with bail set at $2 million.
Just weeks later, on Friday, July 25, a second man believed to be connected to the case was also taken into custody. As of now, details regarding his bail have not been made public. He is expected to face similar murder charges, with a formal arraignment scheduled for Monday, July 28, in Snohomish County Superior Court.
Police say the crime occurred around 6:15 a.m. on 2nd Street in downtown Marysville, where first responders found the victim, Gheorghe Sandru, with a fatal stab wound to the chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators credit early surveillance footage from nearby cameras with helping identify a vehicle used in the suspects’ escape. Over time, detectives obtained multiple search warrants that allowed them to piece together key evidence and narrow down their suspects.
The department issued a public statement on Saturday confirming that this was the only homicide reported within Marysville city limits so far this year. Authorities emphasized their continued commitment to public safety and thanked the community for their patience during the months-long investigation.
