As Washington State grapples with ongoing ferry service disruptions, a local maritime technology company has introduced an electric water taxi, aiming to provide a sustainable and reliable alternative for Puget Sound commuters.

The debut of this electric water taxi comes at a critical time when the state’s ferry system faces vessel shortages and service delays. The new vessel, designed for short-haul routes, offers a zero-emission solution that aligns with Washington’s broader goals of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and modernizing its transportation infrastructure.

This initiative complements existing efforts by Washington State Ferries (WSF) to electrify its fleet. WSF plans to introduce hybrid-electric ferries by 2028, with the goal of achieving a fully electric fleet by 2040. The introduction of the electric water taxi provides an immediate step towards sustainable maritime transport, potentially easing the burden on the current ferry system and offering commuters a greener alternative.

As the state continues to invest in electrifying its ferry services, the launch of this electric water taxi represents a significant move towards achieving environmental sustainability and improving transportation reliability for Washington residents.
