A 31-year-old man was hospitalized in serious condition Monday afternoon after being shot multiple times in West Seattle, with investigators recovering more than 20 bullet casings from the scene near Roxhill Park.

Seattle police and emergency medical personnel responded just before 3 p.m. to the 9400 block of 27th Avenue Southwest, where they found the victim suffering from gunshot wounds to his arm and leg.

The shooting created a dangerous scene with bullets striking two buildings and at least two vehicles in the area. Police cordoned off the street while crime scene technicians documented evidence scattered across the roadway and sidewalk.

Basha Abdella was inside his apartment when he heard the gunfire and discovered his car had been hit by bullets. “His car was hit and he pointed out two bullet holes on the passenger side of his vehicle that he’s going to get fixed,” according to witness accounts.

Sari Benamar, who works at a nearby Safeway, rushed to the scene after customers informed her about the shooting, concerned for her daughter who lives in the area. “Everybody was shaken up. Everybody came into my store and screaming, scared,” Benamar said.

The incident has left many questions unanswered, including what precipitated the gunfire and whether the shooting was random or targeted. Police have not released a suspect description or information about a possible getaway vehicle.

Detective Brian Pritchard noted that gun violence across Seattle has decreased since schools resumed sessions. According to crime dashboard data, this incident represents the second shooting with injuries in the Roxhill, Westwood, and Arbor Heights areas in 2025, out of nine total shots-fired reports.

Investigators are examining whether the victim may have also discharged a weapon during the encounter, as bullet casings were discovered both in the street and near where the victim was found.

The shooting occurred in a residential area near Roxhill Park, a community space that serves families in the West Seattle neighborhood. The volume of evidence suggests an intense exchange of gunfire that posed risks to nearby residents and businesses.

Community members expressed frustration about gun violence while praising the Seattle Police Department’s rapid response. “We spend so much money on rent, you would think we’d be protected. And I thank God the cops came in,” Benamar said.

The investigation remains active as detectives work to identify the suspect and establish the circumstances that led to the shooting. Police are likely reviewing surveillance footage from area businesses and seeking additional witnesses.

The incident highlights ongoing public safety concerns in West Seattle neighborhoods, where residents balance urban living with expectations of community security.
