A woman has died following a motorcycle crash on westbound Interstate 90 in Bellevue on Sunday afternoon, shutting down four traffic lanes and backing up traffic for miles as emergency crews worked at the scene.
The crash occurred before 4 p.m. on 14 June. According to an eyewitness, the driver appeared to be a woman in her early thirties who was unable to stop in time when traffic slowed ahead of her. She struck the rear of one vehicle before falling from her motorcycle into an adjacent fast-moving travel lane, where she was struck by another vehicle.
First responders administered CPR and other life-saving medical care at the scene, but were unable to save the woman. Washington State Patrol Trooper Rick Johnson said the death investigation was underway and that there was no estimated time of reopening for the affected lanes heading into Sunday evening. Traffic was rerouted through the single available HOV lane while crews conducted the investigation and cleaned up the scene. WSDOT reported an initial two-mile backup caused by the closure.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
