A woman was struck and killed by a Sounder train near Carkeek Park in Seattle on Tuesday afternoon, prompting a temporary halt to rail traffic in the area.
According to the Seattle Fire Department, the collision happened just before 5 p.m. near the overpass at Carkeek Park. BNSF shut down train traffic for a brief period afterward. First responders arrived on scene but were unable to save the woman, who was pronounced dead there.
The incident caused delays across the Sounder N Line. One train from King Street Station to Everett Station was delayed roughly 30 minutes, while another was canceled entirely.
Seattle police are now investigating the circumstances surrounding her death.
