A potential tragedy was averted at Alderwood Middle School on Friday afternoon, thanks to the swift and courageous actions of a teacher who intervened in an attempted stabbing incident.

According to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. when deputies were dispatched to the school following reports of an assault involving a weapon. Authorities say an 11-year-old boy, identified as a former student of the Edmonds School District, entered the campus and attempted to stab another student.

A vigilant teacher who witnessed the attack quickly stepped in, successfully preventing any injuries. The suspect fled the scene on foot and remains at large. Law enforcement continues to investigate the matter and is working to locate the individual involved.

School officials later confirmed that the suspect is currently enrolled at a different school in another district. In a statement, Alderwood Middle School expressed deep appreciation for the staff member’s immediate response, emphasizing that no students were harmed during the incident.

“Thanks to the quick and courageous actions of a staff member who witnessed the incident and immediately intervened, no students were injured,” the school said in an official statement.

Principal and district representatives reassured families that there is no ongoing threat to the safety of students or staff. Additional security protocols have been reviewed, and the school continues to work closely with local law enforcement.

“We understand how unsettling incidents like this can be for our school community,” the school’s principal said in a release. “We are incredibly thankful for our staff’s fast response and for the support of the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office. The safety and well-being of our students remain our top priority.”

Anyone with information related to the incident is urged to contact the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office as investigations remain ongoing.
