A 13-year-old boy has died from injuries sustained after striking a braided metal cable while riding his electric scooter through a grassy area in Everett. The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. on May 2 in the 8800 block of 5th Avenue West.

According to Everett Police, the boy was traveling southbound on 5th Avenue West and attempted to cut through a grassy lot to reach a nearby cul-de-sac. While crossing the lot, he collided with a braided metal cable stretched between a fence post and a traffic bollard, resulting in severe injuries.

Emergency responders, including Everett Police officers and Everett Fire Department crews, arrived promptly at the scene. The boy was transported by medics to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he succumbed to his injuries on May 5.

The City of Everett’s Risk Management team has been notified, and the hazardous cable has since been removed from the lot. Everett Police have stated that the investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
