Seattle police are investigating a deadly stabbing that occurred early Sunday morning in the city’s University District, as they search for those responsible and work to piece together the events that led to the fatal attack.

Officers responded around 4:30 a.m. to a report of a man lying on the sidewalk along University Way Northeast—commonly known as The Ave—between Northeast 47th and Northeast 50th streets. Upon arrival, police discovered a man suffering from life-threatening stab wounds.

Seattle Fire Department medics provided emergency aid at the scene and transported the man by ambulance to Harborview Medical Center. Despite efforts by medical personnel in the emergency room to resuscitate him, he was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

The Seattle Police Department’s Homicide and Crime Scene Investigation Unit processed the area for evidence, securing the scene and canvassing for potential leads. The victim’s identity and the circumstances surrounding the attack have not yet been publicly disclosed. The King County Medical Examiner’s Office has taken custody of the body and will determine the official cause and manner of death.

Authorities have not made any arrests and have not confirmed the number of suspects involved. Investigators are urging anyone with information or who may have witnessed the incident to contact the Seattle Police Department’s Violent Crimes Tip Line at (206) 233-5000. Tips can be submitted anonymously.

As of Sunday evening, the area had been reopened to the public, while the investigation remains active.
