Firefighters responded to an early morning blaze Wednesday at a historic bathhouse situated in Mount Baker Park along Lake Washington Boulevard.

The Seattle Fire Department (SFD) received the first emergency call around 3:30 a.m. and quickly dispatched crews to the scene. When they arrived, flames were visible through multiple windows on the building’s north side, prompting an aggressive exterior attack using water and firefighting foam.

The intensity of the fire led to a partial roof collapse before the flames were brought under control roughly 30 minutes later. In total, seven fire engines, three ladder trucks, and approximately 50 firefighters were involved in the operation.

SFD spokesperson David Cuerpo noted that while the foam used to combat the fire is environmentally friendly and biodegradable, there is concern that debris from the structure could introduce contaminants into nearby Lake Washington. Environmental authorities have been alerted as a precaution.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
