An early morning fire that began in a shed quickly escalated and spread to seven nearby structures in Seattle’s Cherry Hill area, prompting a two-alarm response from firefighters.

The blaze broke out shortly after 1:30 a.m. on Thursday along 20th Avenue, not far from Firehouse Mini Park in the Squire Park section of the city.

The flames, initially confined to a detached shed, soon extended to multiple surrounding buildings, including additional sheds, garages, residential homes, and at least one apartment complex.

Seattle Fire crews ramped up their response during the height of the incident, dispatching extra units to control the growing fire. By 5:30 a.m., however, only a single engine remained on scene as crews wrapped up containment efforts.

According to a spokesperson from the Seattle Fire Department, one firefighter sustained minor injuries and was treated on-site. No other injuries have been reported. Several households in the immediate vicinity were temporarily evacuated as a precaution.

Authorities are continuing to assess the damage and investigate the cause of the fire.
