Two Everett police officers are being credited with saving a man’s life after pulling him from a burning electric vehicle following a crash on I-5 early Friday morning.

The incident happened just after midnight on July 26 near the SR 2 interchange. According to officials, the officers were nearby when the crash occurred and responded within minutes. They found the vehicle fully engulfed in flames with the driver still inside.

Body camera footage and incident reports confirm that the officers managed to remove the driver from the burning car moments before it became completely consumed by fire.

Mayor Cassie Franklin commended the officers in a public statement, calling their response “brave and selfless,” and emphasizing how fortunate the city is to have officers who are willing to act quickly in life-threatening situations.

Everett Police Chief John DeRousse also praised the officers for their actions, stating that their response “demonstrates the highest level of professionalism and courage expected from our department.”

Both officers were treated for smoke inhalation at the scene and are expected to make a full recovery. The condition of the driver has not been released, but authorities say the rescue likely saved his life.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
