A Delta Air Lines flight bound for Amsterdam was forced to make an emergency landing at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport Wednesday evening after severe turbulence injured multiple passengers.

Delta Flight 56, traveling from Salt Lake City to Amsterdam, was diverted at approximately 6:43 p.m. and landed safely at 7:45 p.m., according to the Metropolitan Airports Commission.

Emergency crews from Minneapolis Fire and EMS were standing by at the gate upon arrival. Twenty-five passengers were transported to area hospitals for evaluation and treatment. The extent of their injuries has not been released.

The Airbus A330-900 was carrying 275 passengers and 13 crew members when the turbulence occurred.

Delta confirmed the turbulence was significant and said safety remains the airline’s top priority. The company’s Care Team is working with affected travelers to provide support.

The incident is under review. No additional details about conditions aboard the aircraft have been released.
