A semi-truck fire on Saturday morning brought traffic to a crawl along State Route 169 in Maple Valley, as flames from the vehicle spread to nearby vegetation and forced emergency crews to close lanes and manage a roadside brush fire.
The incident began around 11:30 a.m. on August 2, when the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) reported that a semi had caught fire and was blocking the right lane of SR-169. Within minutes, flames had reached brush along the highway shoulder, adding to the urgency for first responders.
Puget Sound Fire dispatched multiple engines and a command unit to contain the blaze. The quick spread of the fire raised concerns about the potential for further vegetation damage, especially with dry conditions in the area. Crews worked to suppress both the truck fire and the smoldering brush as motorists faced delays and rerouted traffic.
