An early morning shooting in South Seattle on Sunday left one man dead and a juvenile injured, prompting an ongoing investigation by city detectives and renewed calls for community safety.

Seattle police responded to reports of gunfire shortly after 4 a.m. on August 3 in the area of 1st Avenue South and South Dakota Street. Officers arriving at the scene located two individuals with gunshot wounds — a juvenile with a leg injury and an adult male suffering from a chest wound.

Medics transported both victims to Harborview Medical Center. The adult male later died from his injuries. The juvenile remains hospitalized and is expected to recover.

Detectives recovered multiple firearms at the scene and confirmed that one individual was brought to police headquarters for questioning. Authorities have not disclosed whether any arrests have been made as of Sunday evening.

In a public statement, Seattle Police Chief Shon Barnes said the incident “stemmed from an unauthorized and unregulated gathering,” which escalated into gun violence and resulted in what he described as “the loss of another community member.”

The identity of the deceased has not been released, pending notification of next of kin.

The SPD Gun Violence Reduction Unit has taken over the investigation. Detectives are asking anyone with information to contact the Violent Crimes Tip Line at 206-233-5000.

As the investigation continues, officials are urging residents to avoid the area during active police presence and to remain alert for further updates from law enforcement.
