Alaska Airlines is preparing to broaden its international footprint with the introduction of two new nonstop routes from Seattle, one to London Heathrow and the other to Reykjavik, Iceland, slated to begin in spring 2026.

This expansion signals a major shift in the airline’s vision, positioning it as a rising global competitor in the premium travel space. The Seattle-to-Reykjavik route is expected to run daily during the summer months using the fuel-efficient Boeing 737-8 MAX. Reykjavik, known for its dramatic landscapes and access to continental Europe, remains a favorite among outdoor adventurers and nature seekers.

Alongside the new destinations, Alaska Airlines is rolling out a refreshed look for its 787-9 Dreamliner fleet, featuring a design inspired by the Northern Lights. According to Andrew Harrison, the airline’s chief commercial officer, this updated livery represents a milestone as the company “transitions into a global airline,” blending elegance and heritage in its visual identity. Harrison also emphasized the company’s excitement about reaching more travelers who will come to recognize the updated aircraft as part of Alaska’s signature commitment to service.

Plans are also underway to anchor a 787-9 hub in Seattle, where the airline will eventually deploy as many as 17 Dreamliners to serve an expanded global network.

This move is part of a larger push by Alaska Airlines to connect the Pacific Northwest to top destinations across Europe and beyond, reinforcing Seattle’s role as a key hub in its international ambitions.
