Seattle Police are investigating a Sunday afternoon shooting near Broadway East and East Harrison Street in Capitol Hill that left one woman hospitalized with a gunshot wound to her knee.
Officers responded shortly after 4 p.m. following reports of a fight between multiple people in the area. During the altercation, someone deployed pepper spray before gunfire erupted, according to the Seattle Police Department.
The victim was struck in her knee and received treatment at the scene before being transported to Harborview Medical Center in serious but stable condition.
Police identified the suspect as an adult woman who fired multiple shots before fleeing in a black SUV. The suspect remained at large as of Sunday evening.
The shooting occurred in a busy Capitol Hill neighborhood area frequented by pedestrians and local businesses. The Broadway corridor serves as a major commercial and residential hub in the neighborhood.
Investigators are working to determine what sparked the initial confrontation and whether the individuals involved knew each other prior to the incident. The use of pepper spray before the shooting suggests an escalating conflict between the parties.
The Seattle Police Department has not released additional suspect descriptions or vehicle information beyond the black SUV. Anyone with information about the shooting is encouraged to contact SPD’s violent crimes unit.
The investigation remains active as detectives gather evidence and interview witnesses who may have observed the altercation or shooting. Security camera footage from nearby businesses could provide additional leads in identifying the suspect.
Capitol Hill has experienced periodic violent incidents despite ongoing community safety efforts and increased police presence in commercial corridors. The neighborhood’s dense population and active street life can complicate investigations when incidents occur in public spaces.
The victim’s current condition and identity have not been disclosed beyond initial reports of stable condition at Harborview Medical Center.
