Seattle will experience significant congestion this weekend as multiple major events draw thousands of visitors to downtown, SODO, and Pioneer Square, with sports playoffs, concerts, conventions, and cruise ship arrivals creating simultaneous demands on city infrastructure.
The Seattle Mariners begin their postseason at T-Mobile Park on Saturday and Sunday, hosting either the Detroit Tigers or Cleveland Guardians. Game times are scheduled for either 1:08 p.m. or 5:38 p.m. Saturday and 5:03 p.m. Sunday.
The Sounders face Portland at Lumen Field Saturday at 7:30 p.m., while the Seahawks host the Buccaneers there Sunday at 1:05 p.m.
Climate Pledge Arena will host two concerts: Laufey’s A Matter of Time Tour Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Benson Boone’s American Heart World Tour Sunday at 8 p.m.
Michael Woody of Visit Seattle confirmed a 6,000-person convention in downtown Seattle this weekend, plus five cruise ships docking throughout the weekend, increasing foot traffic along the waterfront and downtown corridors.
“Yeah, so add that into the mix. So we’ll have a lot of activity, certainly right here, along Alaska way, but also up at the other two terminals,” Woody said. “So yeah, it’ll be a fun, busy weekend.”
The Washington State Department of Transportation reported no major construction projects scheduled for the weekend, providing rare relief from typical infrastructure work disruptions.
Heavy traffic is expected in downtown, Pioneer Square, and SODO Saturday and Sunday. Officials recommend attendees plan ahead, allow extra travel time, or use public transportation.
The convergence of playoff baseball, professional soccer and football, major concerts, convention attendees, and cruise ship passengers represents one of Seattle’s busiest event weekends of the year, testing the city’s capacity to handle simultaneous large-scale gatherings.
Public transportation options including Link light rail, bus routes, and water taxis offer alternatives to driving, particularly for those attending events in the stadium district where parking will be limited and expensive.
