The Food and Drug Administration issued a massive recall for peanut butter products across 40 states, including Washington, after pieces of blue plastic were found in a filter.

Ventura Foods LLC initiated the recall last April, but the FDA upgraded it to Class II this month. A Class II recall means use of or exposure to affected products may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.

The recalled products include creamy peanut butter distributed by US Foods in various sizes, including 0.5-ounce, 0.75-ounce, and 1.12-ounce packages. Also recalled are Poco Pac brand peanut butter and jelly combinations distributed by Dyma Brands, including creamy peanut butter with grape jelly and creamy peanut butter with strawberry jam.

The recall affects creamy peanut butter packages totaling 17,115 cases of 0.75-ounce packages, 4,496 cases of 0.5-ounce packages, and 516 cases of 1.12-ounce packages. The Poco Pac combinations include 929 cases of peanut butter and grape jelly and 379 cases of peanut butter and strawberry jam.

Consumers who purchased the affected products should check package labels and contact the retailer for refund information.
