Two people are in critical condition after the electric bike they were riding was struck by a truck in Seattle’s Queen Anne neighbourhood in the early hours of Monday morning, leaving the bike wedged underneath the vehicle.

Officers responded shortly after 4:20 a.m. to the intersection of Aurora Avenue North and Roy Street, where a white Chevrolet truck had collided with an electric bike carrying two adult riders, a man and a woman. Seattle Fire Department medics arrived alongside officers and found the bike lodged beneath the truck. Both cyclists were given aid at the scene before being transported to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition.

Detectives with the Traffic Collision Investigation Squad processed the scene after patrol officers cordoned off the area. The investigation determined the two cyclists had been travelling eastbound on Roy Street and crossed into the southbound lanes of Aurora Avenue North before being struck by the truck. The driver, a 69-year-old man, was evaluated at the scene and showed no signs of impairment.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the Traffic Collision Investigation Squad at 206-684-8923.
