A Delta Air Lines flight travelling from South Korea to Atlanta was diverted to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on Monday morning after the crew reported a suspicious package on board, prompting a security sweep of the aircraft and additional screening of passengers.
Delta Flight 188, a regularly scheduled service between Seoul’s Incheon International Airport and Atlanta, diverted to Sea-Tac at approximately 10:30 a.m., well ahead of its originally scheduled 5 p.m. arrival in Georgia. The flight crew made the decision to divert out of an abundance of caution following the report of the suspicious package.
After landing, the aircraft was staged at Taxiway Tango on the airfield, away from the terminal. Passengers were deplaned and transported to buses while investigators swept the plane and law enforcement officials conducted additional security screening. Delta confirmed that no credible threat was discovered and no arrests were made. Once the aircraft was cleared, passengers were reboarded, brought to the gate, and processed through Customs.
Delta said it is cooperating with an ongoing investigation involving law enforcement agencies, aviation regulators, and other officials.
