Seattle police SWAT officers arrested a man Monday morning following a seven-hour standoff at an apartment complex in the SODO neighbourhood, after the suspect barricaded himself inside his unit following an early morning stabbing that left a man in serious condition.
Patrol officers responded at approximately 2:30 a.m. to reports of a stabbing at an apartment complex in the 6100 block of 4th Avenue South. Officers arrived to find a male victim in the courtyard suffering from multiple stab wounds. The Seattle Fire Department treated the victim at the scene before medics transported him to Harborview Medical Center in serious condition.
The suspect retreated into his apartment and barricaded himself inside after the attack. Officers established a security perimeter around the residence and called in the SPD Hostage Negotiation Team, whose members spent hours attempting to persuade the suspect to surrender peacefully. Despite extended negotiations, the suspect refused to come out.
Officers obtained a search warrant, and once it was approved the SWAT team entered the apartment and took the suspect into custody without further incident. He will be booked into the King County Jail on felony assault charges.
