A suspect involved in a carjacking incident was shot and killed by law enforcement officers following a tense standoff in Puyallup on Saturday afternoon.

The Puyallup Police Department reported that the fatal confrontation occurred at approximately 12:40 p.m., though the series of events began earlier when the suspect carjacked a vehicle around 12:25 p.m. in unincorporated Pierce County. Authorities confirmed the initial carjacking took place in the 10400 block of Pacific Ave S, before the suspect fled into Tacoma.

At around 12:29 p.m., the suspect crashed the stolen vehicle and proceeded to carjack a second vehicle near S 56th St & Pacific Ave. Tacoma police quickly responded and initiated a pursuit, which continued into Puyallup city limits.

In an effort to halt the suspect, Puyallup police deployed spike strips as the vehicle approached the city. The suspect eventually came to a stop on Valley Ave. Upon exiting the vehicle, the suspect was reportedly armed with a knife and confronted officers. In response to the threat, police opened fire, fatally wounding the suspect.

Fortunately, the officers involved in the shooting were not injured during the incident. The investigation into the events leading up to the confrontation is ongoing.
