Search teams recovered the body of a young child from a pond in Kent on Tuesday evening, according to the Kent Police Department.

Authorities stated that the child was found in the water around 6 p.m. behind a Buddhist temple located at 11911 SE 196th Street. Despite emergency responders’ life-saving efforts, the child was pronounced dead at the scene.

A police spokesperson confirmed that officers had already been in the area investigating reports of a missing child when the discovery was made.

Investigators remained on-site late into the evening to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident. As of Tuesday night, authorities had not disclosed the child’s age, gender, or the location where the search initially began.
