A house party in South Tacoma turned deadly in the early hours of Sunday morning after a barrage of gunfire killed one woman and injured another, leaving a neighbourhood shaken and a community searching for answers.

Police say more than 100 rounds were fired at a home on the 100 block of East 91st Street at approximately 12:35 a.m. Surveillance footage from the area captured the chaos that followed, showing people running from the scene as the shots rang out. One neighbour described the sound as resembling automatic fire. “What sounded like automatic fire, a Glock with a switch, and the chaos that ensued after that,” the neighbour said. “People up and down the street, running around.”

Two women were struck by the gunfire. One died at the scene, while the second was transported to hospital and is expected to survive. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the woman killed, confirmed how many individuals were involved, or identified any suspects. The investigation remains ongoing.

The scale of the shooting sent ripples of fear through the surrounding blocks. Bullets struck nearby homes and property, and some residents reported finding young teenagers hiding in their yards seeking safety. “We had two kids hiding around this area,” one resident said. “We asked if they were okay, they said yes, told us good night, and left.” Additional footage showed vehicles leaving the area rapidly as people fled on foot. Many neighbours declined to speak on camera, citing safety concerns.

“Seeing that there were around 100 rounds fired, it’s just so scary. That could’ve taken a lot of lives,” one neighbour said. Another added: “It scares me a lot. I don’t know what to think about bringing my kids around here. There’s never been an incident like this.”

Police say the party included a mix of teenagers and adults but have not released details about what led to the shooting. Anyone with information is urged to contact Tacoma Police.
