A 17-year-old boy was shot inside a moving vehicle near the Atlantic City Boat Ramp in Seattle in the early hours of Tuesday morning, with the victim later found by King County Sheriff’s deputies in the Skyway neighbourhood after the driver dropped the occupants off and fled the scene.
Officers were dispatched at 3:30 a.m. to reports of shots fired in the 9000 block of Seward Park Avenue South. Upon arrival, officers found evidence of a shooting in the street in front of the Atlantic City Boat Ramp but no victim at the scene. Shortly after, dispatch advised that King County Sheriff’s Office deputies had located a 17-year-old male in the 8500 block of 117th Street in Skyway suffering from a gunshot wound to the back. The teenager told deputies he had been shot near Seward Park.
Seattle Police officers responded to Skyway and confirmed that King County medics were transporting the victim to Harborview Medical Center. His current condition has not been publicly released.
Investigators determined the victim had been riding in a vehicle with two other boys, aged 13 and 17, and an unidentified driver, when gunshots were heard while travelling on Seward Park Avenue South. The victim was struck inside the vehicle. The driver then transported the teenagers to Skyway, dropped them off, and left the area without remaining at the scene.
Seattle Police Department’s Gun Violence Reduction Unit is leading the investigation and working to establish what led to the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to call the SPD Violent Crimes Tip Line at 206-233-5000.
