Salem, Oregon-based Agility Robotics is reportedly in the process of raising $400 million in new funding, with a valuation of $1.75 billion before investment. The funding round is being led by WP Global’s venture arm, with participation from SoftBank, according to sources familiar with the matter.

The company, known for its humanoid warehouse robot, Digit, has not publicly commented on the reported funding efforts.

Agility Robotics is currently led by CEO Peggy Johnson, a former Microsoft executive who previously served as CEO of Magic Leap, an augmented reality technology firm. Under her leadership, the company has continued to refine and expand Digit’s capabilities.

Recent upgrades to Digit include improved battery performance, autonomous docking for recharging, enhanced safety features, and redesigned limbs for a wider range of motion. The manufacturing process has also been optimized to support future scalability.

Amazon is among the company’s previous investors, having contributed to a $150 million funding round through its Industrial Innovation Fund, which focuses on advancing supply chain technologies.

Digit has been undergoing real-world testing in warehouse environments, including an Amazon facility near Seattle. The bipedal robot is designed to handle tote consolidation by autonomously sensing, gripping, and relocating storage containers. It is built to function in environments originally designed for human workers.

Standing at 5 feet 9 inches, Digit is equipped with LED eyes for directional signaling, multiple sensors and cameras, and a LiDAR system for spatial awareness. The robot’s two arms and bird-like legs, inspired by human and animal movement, allow it to navigate various terrains with ease.

In September 2023, Agility Robotics announced plans to establish a manufacturing facility in Salem capable of producing over 10,000 robots annually.

The company is part of a growing wave of interest in humanoid robotics, alongside firms such as 1X, Cobot, and Figure AI. A spinoff of Oregon State University, Agility has gained recognition as a key player in the robotics sector.
