A small homebuilt aircraft made an emergency landing in a driveway on the 10100 block of Olalla Valley Road SE Monday afternoon, with the pilot emerging uninjured, the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office reported.
No ground injuries were reported, though the homemade plane sustained damage during the crash landing. The Federal Aviation Administration will investigate the incident, according to KCSO.
The circumstances forcing the emergency landing were not immediately disclosed. Homebuilt aircraft, also known as experimental aircraft, are constructed by individuals or small groups rather than manufactured by aviation companies.
FAA regulations govern homebuilt aircraft construction and operation, requiring builders to obtain certificates and meet safety standards before flight approval. Experimental aircraft must display placards informing passengers of the aircraft’s experimental status.
