A “No Kings” rally is planned in Olympia on Saturday, October 18, billed as the 2.0 version of the June 14 event that drew thousands to the Capitol Campus to protest against President Donald Trump.

The rally is part of a coordinated day of No Kings protests around the country, with dozens of similar rallies planned throughout the state and many more scheduled from coast to coast, according to the No Kings website.

The Olympia rally is noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, October 18, at the Capitol Campus in Olympia. Olympia Indivisible is partnering with the Olympia chapter of Evergreen Resistance on the rally, described as a “peaceful, family-friendly, pro-democracy event.”

Organizers said they “expect all participants to commit to nonviolence in all aspects of our interactions and to act lawfully at this event.”

Participants are encouraged to bring signs and American flags.

Organizers described No Kings as “a peaceful national day of action and mass mobilization in response to the increasing authoritarian excesses and corruption of the Trump administration.”

Jayne Rossman, an Olympia Indivisible volunteer who’s helping organize the rally at the Capitol Campus, stated that, “We’re mobilizing on Saturday to make it clear that Americans will stand up for our rights, our freedoms, and our neighbors. America doesn’t do dictators.”

Along with the Olympia rally, No Kings protests are planned in and around Seattle, Tacoma, Bellingham, the Tri-Cities and other parts of Washington.

The June 14 rally that drew thousands to the Capitol Campus demonstrated strong opposition to Trump administration policies in Washington state, a traditionally Democratic stronghold where the president’s policies on immigration, healthcare, and environmental regulations face significant resistance.

The “No Kings” branding references the American revolutionary rejection of monarchical rule, positioning the protests as defending constitutional principles against what organizers characterize as executive overreach and authoritarian tendencies.

The emphasis on peaceful, family-friendly demonstrations reflects organizers’ awareness that violent or disruptive protests can undermine public support and provide ammunition to political opponents who characterize protesters as extremists.

Coordination with similar rallies nationwide amplifies the movement’s visibility and demonstrates breadth of opposition, though critics argue such protests have limited impact on policy outcomes in Republican-controlled Washington D.C.

Washington state’s concentration of protests in multiple cities; Seattle, Tacoma, Bellingham, Olympia, Tri-Cities, reflects both the state’s progressive political leanings and geographic diversity of anti-Trump sentiment extending beyond the Seattle metropolitan area.
