Seattle University has appointed Daniel Turner as the new dean of the Albers School of Business and Economics, effective July 1. Turner will take over from Joseph Phillips, who has led the business school since 2001.

Turner, currently a professor and associate dean at the University of Washington’s Foster School of Business, brings extensive leadership experience in business education. Since 1999, he has been a faculty member at UW and has served as associate dean of master’s programs at Foster since 2007. During his tenure, he oversaw admissions, curriculum development, alumni relations, and overall operations for the school’s MBA programs. Under his leadership, Foster’s graduate programs significantly expanded, tripling their revenue to $47 million and nearly doubling student enrollment to 1,131 students.

In a statement, Turner expressed enthusiasm for his new role at Seattle University.

“I am deeply honored to join Seattle University and the Albers School of Business and Economics, communities where academic excellence and a strong sense of purpose come together in service of a more just, more sustainable, and more humane world.”

Seattle University Provost Shane P. Martin praised Turner’s leadership abilities.

“(Turner) has a strong record as a values-driven, strategic, and collaborative leader who prioritizes innovation and a growth mindset,” Martin said.

The Albers School of Business and Economics currently ranks as Washington state’s fifth-largest MBA program by enrollment, with 475 students, according to Business Journal research.

Turner holds a bachelor’s degree from Saint Louis University, an MBA from Washington University in St. Louis, and a doctorate from Northwestern University, according to his LinkedIn profile.
